I went to the beach early in the morning, before the tourists arrived. The sun was just coming out and it reflected this golden light — the sand looked like something precious. I placed the shells exactly where you see them, took the photo, and painted it just as it was. I just find so much meaning and beauty in shells. I think of them like a gift from nature — these little things the ocean leaves behind for you, if you’re paying attention.
