My landlord gave me this shell — it used to belong to her mother. The moment I held it, I was obsessed. I originally planned a more complex composition with a book behind it, the face of Botticelli’s Venus on the cover. But I stripped everything away. I wanted nothing to compete with the shell itself. She sits on the same kind of shell the Venus sits on in Botticelli’s painting. Just me and my shells.
